Eco Club
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, it has been noticed that due to unwise and excessive exploitation of natural resources, our environment has started degrading so rapidly that the sustenance of human being has become a hotly debated issue. This is so common that we often see such news daily. Climate change and rise in pollution level of air, water, soil, and noise have been found to induce frequently unexpected and unpredictable extreme events, such as, avalanches, earthquakes, forest fire, cyclones, storms, flash flood, drought, desertification, unpredictable change in weather pattern, change in rain pattern, rise in sea level, depletion of glaciers, deforestation, and change in the course of water streams. Consequently, the sustainable survival of not only human but also of other living beings seems questionable in times to come.
In order to raise awareness regarding the environment and wise utilisation of natural resources that are exhaustible, several initiatives have regularly been taken to bring positive changes by different organisations at international, national, and local level. Along the same line, Eco Club has been established to contribute in this direction for promoting and taking suitable course of actions that would help in the development of local area. On the occasion of World Environment Day, i.e., 5th June 2015, Eco Club was introduced in the Central University of Haryana. It is striving for the betterment of the environment at the university campus and its surrounding. The motto of this club is “think globally and act locally”.
